Dear High School Principals or Guidance Counselors,
The Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Program is soliciting participation in our STEAM Expedition to New York City. This contest is for high school students in grades 9-12. Please encourage your students to apply for this unique experience. Winners will join us for a fully paid trip to NYC Auto Show this April.
Program Objectives: To provide students with opportunities to engage in high quality STEAM field experience by examining vehiclesand technology at the NYC Auto Show; To highlight STEAM careers; To highlight New York City’s landmarks.
The Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Program was developed in 1984 to provide urban students, at no charge, equal opportunities to engage in high quality programs and to offer character-building activities through academics, sports and the arts. The program has served more than 10,000 children ages 5-16 for over 34 years.
Students interested in attending the STEAM Learning Experience must provide the following information by March 29, 2019:
One completed application (enclosed).
One 250 word typed essay.
One letter of recommendation submitted on school letterhead from school administrator, faculty or staff.
A wallet sized color photo (Publicity reasons only).
Failure to submit the required information by the March 11 deadline will result in application being denied.
The essay should demonstrate the ability of the student to synthesize their thoughts and findings into an essay. All essays must be typed and double-spaced on the following topic: “What is STEAM and why is it important?”
Completed applications should be mailed postmarked by March 29 to:
